FST4
« : 21 Август 2020, 21:31:42 »
Version 2.3 of WSJT-X introduces a new family of digital modes we designate FST41 . These modes have a wide range of capabilities and potential applications. Their fundamental sensitivities are better than most older modes in WSJT-X and are close to the theoretical limits for the same information throughput rates. Particular target applications include  ▪ WSPR-like, quasi-beacon transmissions on LF and MF bands ▪ QSOs with very weak signals on the LF and MF bands ▪ EME on VHF and UHF bands with T/R sequences both shorter and longer than 60 s ... but other uses will surely be found, as well. We expect that FST4 will serve some of its intended purposes better than older modes in WSJT-X, and without the strict time- and frequency-locking requirements of modes such as EbNaut.
FST4 uses 4-GFSK modulation and offers T/R sequence lengths of 15, 30, 60, 120, 300, 900, and 1800 s. Submodes A, B, C, and D provide different tone spacings, to allow for use with a variety of propagation types and Doppler spreads. Forward error correction uses a low density parity check (LDPC) code with 240 information and parity bits. Transmissions consist of a sequence of 120 information-carrying symbols (2 bits each) interspersed with 40 synchronizing symbols. The underlying message payloads contain either 77 bits (the standard payload for FT4, FT8, and MSK144) or 50 bits (the standard for quasi-beacon, WSPR-style messages). With WSPR-like messages the mode designation becomes FST4W and the A submode is always used. In all cases, message formats displayed to the user are the same as in the other 50-bit and 77-bit modes in WSJT-X

As some of you know, I have been part of the test group for the new
modes. I think they should be available very soon. Just a few final
things being worked on.

I can share a few test results comparing WSPR to FST4W.

http://n1bug.com/FST4WvsWSPR/2E0ILY.txt

http://n1bug.com/FST4WvsWSPR/K3RWR.txt

And also some internal tests with FST4W-1800.

http://n1bug.com/FST4W_Test/FST4W-1800A_WeakSigTest_Notes.txt

http://n1bug.com/FST4W_Test/FST4W-1800A_WeakSigTest_Decodes.txt

One problem regarding FST4W and WSPRnet. WSPRnet does not provide any
way to tell FST4W apart from WSPR. Also no way to know which T/R period
is being used. To make it even worse, WSPRnet "corrects" times ending in
5 to make them look like WSPR2 ! I hope some of you will join me in
using call sign suffixes to show which mode and speed you are reporting.
All of my spots are uploaded like this:

N1BUG/2 ... WSPR2
N1BUG/15 ... WSPR15
N1BUG/120 ... FST4W-120
N1BUG/300 ... FST4W-300
N1BUG/900 ... FST4W-900
N1BUG/1800 ... FST4W-1800

I use these for RX reporting only. On TX I use only my call sign N1BUG
from another WSJT-X instance. That is because the suffix will cause
problems with the message encoding.

Nightly monitoring for this winter at my station will be WSPR2, WSPR15,
FST4W-120/300/900/1800, Op32, EU and TA QRSS windows. I will also
monitor some FST4 but not sure which speeds.

I will be very interested to try some DX QSOs with FST4 !

Release Candidate: WSJT-X 2.3.0-rc1
N1BUGВчера, 23:58
Цитировать
The first public candidate release of WSJT-X 2.3.0 is now available for
download and use by beta testers. This release is your first chance to
try two new modes designed especially for use on the LF and MF bands,
and to provide feedback to the WSJT Development Team. The new modes are:

  - FST4, for 2-way QSOs. Options for sequence lengths from 15 seconds
to 30 minutes, with threshold sensitivities from -20.7 to -43.2 dB in
    a 2500 Hz reference bandwidth.

  - FST4W, for WSPR-like transmissions. Sequence lengths from 2 minutes
to 30 minutes, threshold sensitivities from -32.8 to -44.8 dB.

FST4-60 is about 1.7 dB more sensitive than JT9, largely because it uses
multi-symbol block detection where appropriate. With AP decoding in FST4
the advantage can be as much as 4.7 dB. Additional sensitivity details
with respect to path Doppler spread are illustrated in the following
graph comparing JT9 and FST4-60:
https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/jt9_vs_fst4.pdf

FST4W-120 is about 1.4 dB more sensitive than WSPR, and FST4W submodes
with longer transmissions have proportionally better sensitivity.
Decoding probabilities are plotted as a function of SNR on the additive
white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel for WSPR and all FST4W submodes
here: https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wspr_vs_fst4w.pdf

Tests over the past several months have shown FST4 and FST4W frequently
spanning intercontinental distances on the 2200 m and 630 m bands.
Further details and operating hints can be found in the "Quick-Start
Guide to FST4 and FST4W":

https://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/FST4_Quick_Start.pdf

We strongly recommend that users of JT9 and WSPR on the LF and MF bands
should migrate to the more sensitive modes FST4 and FST4W.

Только похвалил новую рассылку...
А у меня нету этого письма((
И сегодня в спаме обнаружил письмо от Joe DL2JP...

Hello,

there will be some new modes for operation on MF and LF in the forthcoming WSJT-X Ver. 2.3, which sound very interesting QSO mode, different transmission times and high decoding depth.
But read for yourself:

GA!
